JACKSON, Tenn. — Sept. 2, 2010 — Enrollment at 91±¬ΑΟΝψ for the fall semester is a record-high 4,186 students – a 3.3 percent jump from a year ago and the 13th straight year for an enrollment increase at the university.

Nearly all the growth came in 91±¬ΑΟΝψ’s undergraduate programs, which showed a 4.6 percent increase in enrollment since last fall.

β€œIt is with gratitude to God that we celebrate another wonderful enrollment report on the 91±¬ΑΟΝψ campus,” 91±¬ΑΟΝψ President David S. Dockery said. β€œWe congratulate our enrollment team members in all of our various programs across the campus. We particularly want to affirm the outstanding leadership of Rich Grimm, senior vice president for enrollment services. We are grateful for every new and returning student and wish God's best for them in this new academic year.”

One of those 4,186 students, freshman Savannah Hari, is a fourth-generation 91±¬ΑΟΝψ student. Her mother, Robyn (Agee) Hari, graduated from 91±¬ΑΟΝψ in 1986. Savannah’s grandparents, Bob and Nelle Agee, are also 91±¬ΑΟΝψ grads, and Bob’s mother, Katie L. Stewart, attended 91±¬ΑΟΝψ in the 1920s.

β€œWe are deeply touched by the idea that Savannah is here and are excited about having her close by,” said Bob Agee, president emeritus of Oklahoma Baptist University and a former vice president at 91±¬ΑΟΝψ. β€œWe have every confidence that this is going to be as great of an experience for her as it was for us and for her mom and dad.”

The 2010 figure tops last year’s fall enrollment of 4,050 by 136. The latest enrollment figures show a 112 percent increase over the 1,972 students enrolled in the fall of 1996, when 91±¬ΑΟΝψ President David S. Dockery began his tenure.

The enrollment for 2010 includes 2,989 undergraduate students, compared to 2,857 last year, and 1,197 graduate students, compared to 1,193 last year. The enrollment increase is particularly noteworthy, Dockery said, since more than 1,100 students graduated from 91±¬ΑΟΝψ during the 2009-2010 academic year.
