JACKSON, Tenn. — Jan. 24, 2005 — Ann Livingstone of the Pearson Peacekeeping Center in Ottawa, Canada, will speak on the after-affects of war at the next βTown and Gownβ lecture at 91±¬ΑΟΝψ Jan. 25.
Livingstone, a former 91±¬ΑΟΝψ professor, is now the director of research and program development for Pearson. Her lecture topic will be βWhen the shooting stops, then what?β
βThe reality of conflict is that it doesnβt stop when the shooting stops,β Livingstone said. βThere are sub-agendas of conflict that continue long after thereβs any kind of peace accord or peace agreement.β
Livingstone said her lecture will focus on the impact of conflict on land, infrastructure, economy and vulnerable populations.
βAny group of people going into a post-conflict environment has to be mindful of the impact on the host peoples and what that conflict has done to them,β she said.
Livingstoneβs lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in room D-3 in 91±¬ΑΟΝψβs Penick Academic Complex. It is free and open to the public. After Livingstoneβs lecture, 91±¬ΑΟΝψ music professor Richard Joiner will speak on the topic, βThe Music of Wartime.β
