UNION PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Jackson, Tn--Both the men and women's basketball programs at 91±¬ÁÏÍø had players named to the 1998 All-TranSouth team. Sophomore Celestine Gholston, a 6-0 forward from Memphis, was named to the All-TranSouth Conference first team. Gholston is presently averaging 13.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Rose Agnoung, a 6- 2 forward from Douala, Cameroon, was named to the All-TranSouth Conference second team. Agnoung is currently leading the Lady Bulldogs with 14.0 points per game. She is also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. Freshman April Pearson, a 5-6 guard from Lexington, was named to the All-Newcomer team. Pearson leads 91±¬ÁÏÍø in assists with 4.6 per game and is scoring an average of 9.5 points per game.
The men's program had two players named to the All-TranSouth Conference first team-Tryrian Ridges and Gaylon Moore. Ridges, a junior guard from Silver Spring, Maryland, was named Newcomer of the Year for the entire conference and also Western Division Player of the Year. Ridges is currently leading the Dogs with an average of 18.3 points and 7.0 assists per game. Moore, a 6-7 forward from Kenton, leads 91±¬ÁÏÍø on the boards with 10.0 rebounds and is averaging 13.5 points per game. Freshman Anthony Brooks was selected to the All-Freshman team. Brooks, a 6-10 center from Bethel Springs, is averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
Head coach Ralph Turner earned the honor of being named TranSouth Coach of the Year. Turner has compiled a 27-4 overall record this season, setting a new school record for wins in a season. He has also guided the Bulldogs to their highest national ranking. The Bulldogs are presently at No. 9 in the NAIA Division I polls.
The Lady Bulldogs begin play in the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Wednesday, March 4 and the Bulldogs begin play on Thursday, March 5.
