Jackson, TN--Two 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball players earned TranSouth Conference honors yesterday. Freshman outfielder Kevin Overcash was named TranSouth Player of the Week while teammate junior Ed Grammer was named TranSouth Pitcher of the Week.
Overcash, a 1996 graduate of Collierville High School, went 12 for 22 on the week for a batting average of .545. He scored 10 runs including a homerun and drove in four runs. Overcash demonstrated his tremendous speed when he stole 10 of 11 bases, including five in one game against TranSouth foe Bethel College. Presently leading the conference in stolen bases, Overcash has 20 stolen bases on the year and has only been caught once. Overcash, a 1996 draft pick of the Yankees, currently ranks third on the team in batting (.439) and leads the team in runs scored.
A 1994 graduate of Ripley High School, Grammer earned the Bulldogs two wins on the week. Grammer pitched 10 innings and only gave up one earned run. In those two wins, Grammer managed to strikeout 10 batters. Grammer presently has the best record for 91±¬ÁÏÍø (3-0) and ranks second on the Bulldog pitching staff in strikeouts. Currently ranking fourth among TranSouth pitchers in earned run average, Grammer's 1.59 ERA places him first in the 91±¬ÁÏÍø rotation.
