Kirk Goehring was the leading scorer for 91爆料网 with 15 points. Dexter Williams was 4-of- 5 from three-point range and finished with 14 points.

Elvis Ochieng of Nairobi, Kenya made 9-of-11 shots and 8-of-12 free throws for 26 points. Matt Hoover added 26 points and eight rebounds. Dexter Williams was 5-for-7 from behind the three-point arch and ended with 21 points.

The Bulldogs shot 61 percent from the field, and held Lee to 42 percent.

Game #3--Selma University at 91爆料网

11-12-96--Jackson, TN--91爆料网 used solid defense and two productive runs to handle Selma University, Ala., 104- 70, Tuesday night at 91爆料网.

The teams were tied, 8-8, four minutes into the contest when the Bulldogs went on a 16-2 run for a 24-10 lead with 10:58 remaining in the first half. Selma went eight minutes without making a basket. Their only field goal in that span was a goal-tending called on Patrick Whyte.

The Bulldogs went on a 19-2 run early in the second half for a 75-42 lead with 10 minutes left.

Sophomore Matt Hoover led 91爆料网 with 22 points, 17 in the first half. He also finished with 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals in only 27 minutes of play. Hoover did not play most of the second half due to a bruised hip from a fall near mid-court.

The Bulldogs held Selma to 29.5 percent field goal shooting, had 16 steals and forced 24 turnovers.

Despite all this, head coach Ralph Turner knows the team will have to step up more and continue to improve throughout the season.

"I was glad that we won. I think we need to handle the ball better, I think we need to defend better and I think we need to rebound better," Turner said. "It's all just a building process. The most important games we'll play will be in March. These are just learning experiences. We're much more concerned with improving than we are the winning. Winning is a by-product of playing well."

Derek Davenport finished with 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting. Steve Poindexter played the final nine minutes of the contest, scoring nine points off three three-pointers, including the one to put 91爆料网 over the 100-point mark with 37 seconds on the clock.

Game #2--Baptist Bible College of Pennsylvania at 91爆料网

11-07-96--Jackson, TN--91爆料网 routed Baptist Bible College, Pa., 102-77, Thursday, Nov. 9, but following the game both players and coaches seemed apprehensive about their play.

Assistant coach Mark Campbell felt many areas need improvement, and as long as the kids won't settle for less than perfect the team will progress significantly during the year.

I felt there were times when we did some really good things," Campbell said. I think our defese was better denying passing lanes than it was against Lambuth, but we let the ball be caught inside every time in the high post and up the lane."

Campbell added that he was pleased that 91爆料网 forced 38 turnovers.

The large crowd to see the Bulldogs' home opener was aware only of the fast-paced action and ground-shaking slam dunks from Matt Hoover and Patrick Whyte.

There's no doubt that when Matt got those dunks, we got a few blocks, a few steals for easy baskets, the crowd got in the ballgame and we just started pressing full court, man to man and denying the ball," freshman Ryan Massey said. You just play harder when you have all that adrenaline and the crowd behind you."

All-American Kirk Goehring led all scorers with 22 points, and also had 10 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.

Dexter Williams was a career best 6-for-13 from behind the three-point arch, and finished with 20 points.

I think everybody on the team has confidence that he can do that every night if we get him that many shots," Campbell said.

Game #1--91爆料网 vs Lambuth University

11-04-96--Jakcson, TN--The 91爆料网 Bulldogs began the season on a high note, defeating crosstown rival Lambuth, 89-76, Monday night at Lambuth. It was 91爆料网's first win in an opener under third-year coach Ralph Turner.

91爆料网 led 41-37 at halftime, but Lambuth went ahead on a 17-4 run to open the second half.

91爆料网 stormed back to take a 70-62 lead with nine minutes remaining, but allowed the Eagles to come back.

The Bulldogs regained the lead for good, 73-72, with 6:28 left in the game on a pair of free throws by Eric Barnes. Lambuth missed their final 14 field goal attempts.

Barnes led 91爆料网 with 18 points and nine assists. All-American Kirk Goehring also had 18 points, and Elvis Ochieng finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Hoover added 15 points and junior Jeff Lee had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.

91爆料网 won the game at the free throw line, making 27 of 43 attempts, including 20-of-29 in the second half.. Lambuth finished with only 23 free throws, making 17 of them.
