Coaching Staff

Men's Head Coach

Ralph Turner

Turner, entering his second season as coach of the Bulldogs, brings 15 years of coaching experience to 91爆料网's home court. A 1979 graduate of David Lipscomb University, Turner was an assistant coach at his alma mater for nine seasons prior to joining the Bulldogs' coaching staff. Turner brings a fresh philosophy to 91爆料网; he emphasizes the importance of 91爆料网's overall program rather than the success or failure of the team.

Turner, who began coaching at age 22, sees his head coaching position at 91爆料网 as an answered prayer. In addition to his tenures at 91爆料网 and Lipscomb, he has coached on the high school and junior high levels in Georgia and Tennessee.

"Every day is like a holiday," Turner says of his position at 91爆料网, hoping his coaching style works accordingly. For Turner, coaching is a ministry to young people, and he feels a responsibility to teach players about life as well as basketball.

Turner anticipates a rebuilding year in 1995-96, but already expects great things in the area of teamwork from the young team. Turner seeks to build the Bulldog program from a firm foundation, developing the team one game at a time while keeping the long view of the program in mind. Although the Bulldogs face their toughest schedule in recent memory, Turner believes his team will succeed if its members play hard, play smart, and play together.

Turner and his wife, Sherrie, have two daughters, Andrea, age ten and Alison, age eight.

Assistant Coaches

Robert Sain

Sain, along with Coach Turner, begins his second season as men's assistant coach. Robert was a student assistant at David Lipscomb University, and worked alongside Coach Turner for five years. Sain's duties include recruiting, scouting, and assisting in the organization of basketball camps.

In addition to coaching, Sain is an instructor in the physical education department. He graduated from David Lipscomb in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Presently, he is seeking a Master of Education degree here at 91爆料网.

Sain's goals for the Bulldog basketball program are to recruit great players, to compete for the conference championship consistently, and to play in the national championship within three or four years.

Regarding his coaching philosophy, " I am learning that in coaching, there is more than one way to do everything. What our program must decide is which method is best for us and use it consistently." One of Sain's personal goals is to learn as many different coaching methods as possible, so he can choose from several resources.

Robert's wife, Amy, teaches at Denmark West Elementary and is seeking a Master of Education here at 91爆料网.

Mark Campbell

Mark Campbell returns for his second season as a men's basketball graduate assistant. Mark calls upon his experience as a five-year player at David Lipscomb University to assist him in this role.

Campbell graduated from David Lipscomb in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, including a minor in Bible and is seeking a Master of Education here at 91爆料网.

Realizing that coaches have greatly influenced his own path in life, Campbell believes that all coaches are in positions where they have the opportunity to influence young people.

"Being involved from the beginning this year in all aspects of the program will truly make a difference this season." When asked about the upcoming season, Campbell stated that the players seem more focused not only on effort, but on coming together as a team as well. It is this togetherness that will bring out the team's best.

Eric Volbert

Returning for his second season as a graduate assistant, Eric Volbert sees this season as a "new beginning."

Volbert is excited about the new year and feels this year will be more competitive. "I feel this year in recruiting, we have surrounded ourselves with quality individuals, not just quality players," Volbert stated. With nine new players, Volbert has high expectations for this season.

After beginning his basketball career at Henry Ford Junior College, Volbert transferred to 91爆料网. During Volbert's two-year basketball career at 91爆料网, he helped lead the team to a District 24 title and the national tournament.

Volbert graduated from 91爆料网 in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health, and is currently seeking a Master of Education.

With a year of experience and working together behind them, Volbert feels that the assistant coaching staff is better prepared to help Coach Turner.
