Brent Fronabarger begins his sixth season as the head coach of the 91±¬ÁÏÍø University Baseball program after serving eight seasons (1996-2005) as the assistant coach. Fronabarger is coming off back-to-back appearances in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
In 2010, Fronabarger led 91±¬ÁÏÍø to 42 wins, the first time as a head coach to reach the 40-win mark. 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted runner-up finishes in the regular season and conference tournament. Fronabarger also posted a milestone 2009 season as he led the team to the TranSouth Tournament Title and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. It was the first for both in his young career.
Fronabarger received a Bachelor of Science in physical education and health from 91±¬ÁÏÍø in 1996 and received a Master of Education degree from 91±¬ÁÏÍø in 1998. He spent his days as the assistant coach working mostly with the pitchers. Fronabarger was named the AFLAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003 selected by Scholastic's Coach and Athletic Director Magazine.
Fronabarger has accumulated a 170-98-1 (.634) overall record in his five seasons.
In 2006, Fronabarger's first year as head coach, he led the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs to the NAIA Region XI Tournament, the teams first appearance since the 2002 season. Fronabarger has reached the 30-win mark three times and 40 wins once in his five seasons at 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
After graduating from 91±¬ÁÏÍø in 1995, Fronabarger returned to his hometown where he helped coach the Huntingdon (Tenn.) High School Mustangs in both football and baseball during the 1996-97 seasons. In 1997, he was hired by 91±¬ÁÏÍø as the assistant baseball coach and head of grounds. During his eight seasons as an assistant coach, 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball posted a win-loss record of 293-146 (.667) with two conference championships and three Region XI Tournament Appearances. The teams boasted three seasons with 40 or more wins.
Fronabarger, the 1995 Tennessee Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, holds several 91±¬ÁÏÍø pitching records including Most Victories in a Season (13), Most Victories in a Career (33), Most Strikeouts in a Career (306), and Most Innings in a Season (117.2). In 1995, Fronabarger led the team with the lowest earned run average (1.97) and had an incredible 11-2 record. Fronabarger was drafted out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays.
In addition to his head coaching duties at 91±¬ÁÏÍø, Fronabarger teaches in the Physical Education, Wellness, and Sport department.
He and his wife Sandy have two sons, Brady and Landry.
Joseph Talley is in his fourth season as the assistant baseball coach for the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs. After completing a four-year career as a starting pitcher, Talley graduated from 91±¬ÁÏÍø in 2003 with a BS in physical education and health.
Talley came to 91±¬ÁÏÍø after spending four seasons (2004-2007) as the assistant baseball coach at the University School of Jackson. While at USJ, Talley helped coach the 2005 State Championship team and also the state runner-up teams of 2006 and 2007.
During Talley’s four years at 91±¬ÁÏÍø, he helped propel the Bulldogs to heights the program had not seen in recent history. During his final season, he was named an NAIA All-American, NAIA Scholar Athlete, first team All-Region, and first team All-Conference. As a senior, Talley helped lead the team to the TranSouth Regular Season and Tournament Titles, and to the second highest NAIA ranking (#4) in program history. Talley finished his senior campaign with a 10-2 record, 3.78 ERA, 74 strikeouts, and a team-high 81 innings pitched. Over his 91±¬ÁÏÍø career, Talley compiled an overall record of 25-11.
Talley is a 1998 graduate of Chester County (Tenn.) High School where he was named an All-District and All-Region player. He is married to the former Hanna Burke of Jackson.
